Code of Ethics Print

The GASW Code of Ethics is intended to serve as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers.

Professional ethics makes the foundation for social work profession. Protection of the main values of the profession, its ethical principles and standards is the main responsibility of social workers. Each social worker shall guide his/her professional work based on these standards. Social work Code of Ethics should be followed not only by professional social workers, but also by every student and intern, who works in the field of social work.

GASW Code of Ethics has the following six objectives:

  1. Code of Ethics emphasizes the importance of those basic values, which lay the foundation for social work mission;
  2. Code of Ethics establishes cohesion of those ethical standards, which shall be followed by every social worker in his/her professional work;
  3. Code of Ethics helps social workers to resolve professional conflicts of interest or misunderstandings regarding ethical obligations;
  4. Code of Ethics defines ethical standards of social work, social workers are responsible to carry out these standards in their work for the benefit of their clients;
  5. Code of Ethics introduces social work mission, values, ethical principles and standards to new social workers;
  6. Code of Ethics offers set of standards, which are used to evaluate professional activities of social workers.

GASW Code of Ethics applies only to GASW members. However, the document is endorsed by various local social service agencies as a guiding document of social work practice.
