Within the framework of the project “Improving Health and Social Care Accessibility For People With Disabilities” of the “Czech Caritas Georgia” – the background was established for understanding of social worker’s profession and practice in a primary healthcare system with participation of the Association. A pilot project, considering engagement of social workers in delivery of primary healthcare services for people with disabilities was launched by the initiative of GASW representatives.
The precondition for this very important step was a meeting of GASW staff member Natalia Bedianashvili, the Chairperson Nino Shatberashvili and project manager Tamar Kurtanidze with representatives of a family medicine center, “VERE XXI outpatient clinic, organized within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation, signed between the family medicine center “VERE 21”, “Caritas Czech Republic” and GASW. The meeting was held within the framework of the project “Improving Health and Social Care Accessibility For People With Disabilities” of the “Czech Caritas Georgia”.
The goal of the meeting held on June 28, was to get insight in social worker’s role and practice in a primary healthcare system. Participants discussed the practice of social worker in a primary healthcare system based on international experience and also the opportunities and benefits of sharing this practice in Georgia.
It is worth to welcome, that the representatives of a primary health care got interested in social worker’s involvement and expressed their readiness for cooperation, that will contribute to the improvement of services for people with disabilities.
