On December 1st, GASW organized a meeting on the topic of school social work for the practitioners from state and non-state organizations. The meeting was held at Social Therapy House, an organization offering social enterprise-type and therapeutic services to persons with disabilities.
The meeting was organized within the frames of the project “Support to Social Inclusion of Youth with Disabilities” which is implemented in partnership with People in Need, Czech international non-governmental organization and with financial support from Czech Development Agency. The meeting was organized around the topic of the importance of social work at schools, as an important tool to ensure social inclusion of all children at school, as well as international experience in this regard and ways to adapt this experience to the Georgian reality.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, Office of Resource Persons of Educational Institutions, Social Services Agency, non-governmental organizations and the community of persons with disabilities and their family members. The results from the meeting will be used to draft the concept of school social work and ways to implement it in the Georgian reality. The concept will be used to further advocate on this topic with the decision-makers at the Ministry of Education and Science and other relevant agencies.
