On December 16th, within the frames of the project “Enhancing accessibility of medical and social services for persons with disabilities”, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic: “The role of primary healthcare and social work in realizing the health rights of persons with disabilities”. The roundtable was held at the hotel Holiday Inn and was organized by the Czech Republic Caritas and its partner organizations – GASW, Georgian Health Law and Bioethics Society and Georgian Association of Family Doctors.
The meeting was attended by the project team members, invited guests from various state and non-state bodies which are active in Georgia in the identification and responding to various needs of persons with disabilities. Representatives of partner organizations provided the audience with a short analytic report about the work conducted within the frames of the project in regards to the health rights of persons with disabilities.
GASW Chairperson, Nino Shatberashvili conducted a presentation on the importance of the role of a social worker in primary healthcare; while Social Work Coordinator, Natalia Bedianashvili provided information on the piloting of social work services within primary healthcare and the general work experience within the project, as well as the needs and barriers faced by persons with disabilities and their family members, the challenges faced by the social worker, etc.
At the end of the meeting, a healthy discussion was held on issues related to persons with disabilities. A set of aspects were revealed which need to be changed to support the well-being of persons with disabilities.
