Georgian Association of Social Workers conducted two-day training for the staff of the small group home for children with severe and profound disabilities. The training topics included: identifying signs of abuse and providing information on the rights and responsibilities of the subjects involved in the child abuse referral procedures, as well as the principles of working in the multidisciplinary team, distinguishing one another’s functions and developing individual plans.
In addition, the challenges facing the professionals as well as ways to overcome these challenges were discussed. Observation of the involvement of the participants revealed that it was important for them to discuss the mentioned issues, as well as share their own experience. They were actively involved in discussions and shared their successful experience; in addition, they expressed willingness to have similar periodic trainings in order to work more efficiently.
The training was conducted within the frames of the project “Capacity Building of Professionals to Improve Alternative Services for Children with Severe and Profound Disabilities” which is funded by USAID and UNICEF. Within the frames of the project, working meetings have already been conducted with the members of the regional guardianship and care councils, while trainings for social workers are also planned.
