GASW started training of the representatives of Achara municipalities on protecting children from abuse and child abuse referral procedures. 4-day training is held in two stages in each municipality. At the first stage, representatives of Gamgebeli’s / Mayor’s Office were trained in administrative units of Batumi, Khelvachauri and Kobuleti Municipalities. The following topics are discussed at the training:
definition of child abuse, forms of child abuse and their identification, legal regulations, child protection referral procedures, monitoring methods, community work, regional services, inter-sector cooperation, state policy in regards to victims and abusers, etc. The goal of the noted training is to raise the level of awareness of the representatives of Achara region local self-government bodies. The project is carried out in all 6 municipalities of Achara region with the support of UNICEF. At the second stage, in April, trainings are planned in the municipalities of Shuakhevi, Keda and Khulo. In addition to trainings, within the frames of the project, roundtable meetings will be arranged for professionals involved in child welfare field in each municipality. Also, there will be a working meeting with the goal to develop working instructions for the representatives of municipalities within the frames of the referral process.
