Nelly Akobia is currently the Program Support Officer at GASW. She has been GASW staff member since 2011.
She received her master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University in New York with a concentration in Social Enterprise Administration and a focus on children, youth and families. She started her career in social work in 2007 as a social worker working with children deprived of care. Nelly is currently most heavily involved in the directions working on the problems faced by children and persons with disabilities. She has been participating in various projects carried out by GASW including development of school social work, developing supervision and performance evaluation systems for social workers, developing child care service monitoring system, capacity building of governmental, non-governmental and international agencies in social services provision to enhance the well-being of various service user groups, developing social enterprises in various regions of Georgia, etc.
Since 2011 Nelly has been teaching as an invited lecturer at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Ilia State University at bachelor’s and master’s programs in social work as well as at certification courses for practicing social workers.
