GASW is actively engaged in the project “Reducing Domestic Violence” which is undertaken by the State Fund for Protecting and Assisting Victims of Trafficking with the financial support from USAID. Within the frames of the project, GASW trainers – Nelly Akobia, Natia Macharashvilli and Guranda Tetradze together with the senior social workers at the Guardianship and Care Body of the Social Services Agency are holding trainings for the social workers of all regions of Georgia. Senior social workers underwent special training led by Salome Namicheishvili, founder of GASW, member of GASW Board and Social Work Advisor with the goal to conduct the aforementioned trainings.
The goal of the noted trainings is to strengthen social workers by raising their awareness on the aspects of domestic abuse with the goal to help them better identify and respond to facts of domestic abuse. In particular, the training focuses on the phenomenon of domestic abuse, its forms and consequences, characteristics of abuser and victim, as well as the role of a social worker and the specifics of interventions, assessing the victim, and the best practices in responding to domestic abuse. The noted topics are discusses within the course based on the best international practice; also, the training enables participants to understand the issue in the context of Georgian reality in order for social workers to adequately and efficiently respond to cases of domestic abuse and empower victims.
Trainings will be conducted for 10 groups and will be held from September 21st to November 24th. 255 social workers of the Guardianship and Care Body will take part in the trainings
